Charades Game Generator is a free charades game that runs on one phone. Pick a category, hand the phone to whoever is acting, and the timer and the scoring take care of themselves.

Who makes it

I'm Joan Ramos. I build small free websites, and it all started with one I didn't expect much from.

Mary's Printables was meant to be a quiet little corner for free printable sheets. Then people started writing to me — a teacher who found exactly what her class needed, a parent using a chart with a child who was having a rough time, someone printing at the last minute before a party.

Not one of them mentioned the design. They wrote because the thing they needed was there, it worked straight away, and it didn't ask them for anything. I've tried to hold every site since to that.

The problem this solves

Charades is the easiest party game there is, right up until someone has to come up with the words.

Somebody tears up paper, somebody else can't find a pen, half the slips say "Titanic," and the person writing them already knows every answer. By the time you're ready to play, the room has moved on.

This skips all of that. The words are ready, nobody has to sit out to write them, and nobody knows what's coming next.

What makes a good charades word

A good word is something you can act out without saying a thing, that most people in the room will know, and that's a little bit silly to watch someone try. "Brushing your teeth" works. An obscure film from 1974 doesn't.

Every category has easy, medium and hard words, so kids and grown-ups can play the same game without anyone getting stuck.
